Pro bono logo

Say "pro bono logo" ten times fast. Creating this logo was bitter sweet. For the 10 months that I lived in Long Beach CA I helped cultivate the bicycle culture in what is now officially named "The most bicycle friendly city in America." City council meetings, bike rides with city officials, and lots of rides with the riders who really make things happen were all part of the process toward building a bicycle cooperative in Long Beach. Those riders became my family. Two months after I moved away for school, The HUB was opened just a few blocks from my home there. I am so proud of my brother in bikes Graham Baden for making it happen and I wish I could be there sweeping the floors and painting. The HUB is a cooperative run 100% by volunteer work for the purpose of aiding and educating the community about bicycles. Anyone can show up, receive used bicycle parts for no cost, and be taught how to build a bicycle to fit their needs.

The process for designing the logo for The HUB involved basically deciding what the message of The HUB truly is. This logo represents the revolution of a bicycle tire. That revolution is only part of the revolution that his happening in bicycle culture in Long Beach and LA county. It represents an old bicycle becoming new, a "used" person becoming new through discovering the liberty and joy of letting a bicycle become part of their life.

Long Beach riders are coming up in the fixed game. Here's a trailer for an upcoming film called Revoked starring some solid Long Beachers Congo and Matt.
